Transition
In 1984, A friend dared me to play Van Halen's Jump on the piano. I couldn't. I learned how two years later, and never forgot.

I wasn't sure what to think when I got the party favor for the birthday party my friend forgot to invite me to. Even stranger, he didn't remember that I wasn't there.

For a whole summer I listened to nothing but the Cars and the Thompson Twins. I spent days at a time singing, "You might think I'm crazy, but all I want is you...."

Everybody worked on their video game skills after watching The Last Starfighter at the movies.

Everyone I knew wanted Go-Bots and Transformers for Christmas, and only one guy got one. It was obvious to the rest of us that his parents had mafia connections.

My social studies teacher kept (intentionally?) losing the papers I turned in and making me do them over. I never figured out why. I was never a history fan after that.

We all sang the song about Michael Jackson's hair.

Every girl I knew wore Jelly shoes. One of my best friends was the first guy at school with parachute pants.

Every single one of my friends all watched the V mini-series (and then series) on T.V., but I never really got into it. Airwolf and Blue Thunder were starting to take over where Knight Rider left off.

I was the third person in my class to have Crayola Fluorescent Crayons. It took hours of convincing my mom that they were really that important. I basked in the glow every time someone asked to borrow one, but I kept "ultra blue" for myself, just so that my pictures were still the only ones with all the cool colors.
